Tradition and future for an iconic project

Today

Palazzo Marignoli, designed by engineer Salvatore Bianchi (1821- 1884) and completed by Giulio Podesti (1857-1909), was built over a period of fifteen years between 1873 and 1888 on behalf of Commander Filippo Marignoli, Marquis of Montecorona from 1868, and subsequently deputy and senator.

Liqueurist Aragno inaugurated his first café on the corner of Via delle Convertite in 1888, and it became a centre of cultural activity, a fashionable meeting place and favourite haunt of writers, journalists and political figures.

In 1925, Riunione Adriatica di Sicurtà (RAS), the new owner of the building, applied to raise the building by one storey and commissioned the architect Carlo Busiri Vici to carry out the design, which also included interior renovations, with clearing of the courtyard portico on all sides.
The building has recently undergone a full redevelopment of its interior. Specifically, the hall, internal courtyards, roof, retail areas and new offices were redesigned to achieve a distinctive result, expertly combining the prestige of the past with a modern and technological architectural layout.

A unique place
in the world

Palazzo Marignoli is even more valuable thanks to its enviable position: right in the centre of Italy’s capital, steps from sights of significant artistic, cultural and social importance.

The entire historic centre is accessible with a pleasant walk, through a maze of streets and passageways where you can breathe in the history of our country. Palazzo Marignoli is very close to Palazzo Montecitorio and overlooks the famous and always busy Via del Corso, with its lively atmosphere. The Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and Galleria Alberto Sordi are just some of the iconic sites within walking distance, not to mention the wide range of services and amenities that only the centre of a city of art can offer.

The convenience of accessibility right in the centre

Reaching Palazzo Marignoli is simple: the city centre enjoys service by numerous buses, in addition to various subway stops (Spagna, Barberini, Repubblica), accessible on foot. The area is also accessible by private means.

The Termini railway station is minutes away by car, and Fiumicino Airport is accessible by railway, from Termini station, or via private means, through the many roads linking the property to the city’s southern quadrant.

Classical interiors are reborn with
a contemporary design

The historical and classical nature of the building is enhanced by the contrast with its fully renovated interior, with a modern and technological inclination. The careful renovation is an unparalleled project, focusing on enhancing the interior spaces and using state-of-the-art materials.

We start from the splendid lobby, which welcomes visitors with the light of its white marble and glass ceiling, from which one can admire the building’s interior facades, framing a corner of the sky. Transparencies characterise all the interiors: from the bottom to the terraces, everything is played out on airy glass windows that give the rooms a dash of momentum.

The lifts were redesigned with this in mind, as was the grand, modern staircase, which contrasts with but also blends into the traditional architecture of the exterior. Glass, white marble, natural and LED lighting convey feelings of space and aperture.

Openings leading to the internal courtyards, completely redesigned with a view to enhancement, and the central cloister, also fully renovated: new pavement, greenery and a revised layout that respects and amplifies the beauty of the original layout.

High ceilings, raised floors and quality materials guarantee the building’s LEED Silver certification.

Interiors that enhance history

The prestigious interiors of the Palazzo have always been rich in works of art and history, such as the wooden ceilings or imitation Mantuan-style vaulting that enrich some of the rooms, not to mention the frescoes by Cipolla and the graffiti by Afro that once decorated Caffè Aragno. Today, these works have been carefully restored and relocated in one of the rooms of the flagship Apple Store, giving them new light and visibility.

The renovated interiors of Palazzo Marignoli keep tradition alive, enhancing history and combining it with new perspectives and new points of view on beauty.
